The reason we lose hope when faced with failure, and get overexcited when meeting success is that we cannot let go of our own self-importance. Whatever we cannot let go of becomes an obstruction. My next workshop in Santa Cruz, on March 12th, will be looking at the Heart Sutra, and Master Sheng Yen’s commentary is the best that I have read on the subject.
