I can certainly testify as to the ease of doing zazen while in residential training, at the monastery or temple. What else are you going to do? The first time I left Tassajara, and spent the summer on the East Coast, I found the local sitting group and walked about ten minutes to the venue for every period they offered, which was four or five times a week. A couple of years later, I remember, away from Zen Center again, I remember how bizarre it felt to get in a car and drive to go and sit, never having done it before. Of course getting in a car is something I try to do as little as possible.
