Kobun Chino

‘Where does breathing originate, what is the beginning and end of each in-breath, out-breath? Who, or what, is breathing? And in the breath are two other elements, the bodily element and the mind element. When you pick up the mind quality of your being, things are much more complicated because of the depth of the invisible mind. We don’t know who is breathing. It looks like you are breathing. The body says the body is breathing. Is the mind breathing? Air going in and being cast out is the noticeable, physical, part of breath. Yet, prana is life force which is neither coming out of you, nor coming from the outside. It is the breath of the universe, so to speak.’ (Embracing Mind)
