Barely Summery

The sun shines often at the moment, but rarely without the accompaniment of a chilly wind blowing in off the ocean. This was most noticeable on Tuesday, when at the end of the afternoon I drove two hours from where I was working in the East Bay, to the Point Reyes lighthouse. Along the way I was remembering the places I had ridden often, and visited occasionally in a car, but I had never made it all the way to the end of the road before.

The reason for this visit was a wedding, overlooking the long beach with waves constantly breaking. I wrote a little more about the ceremony on Patreon, but it was a sweet and romantic moment in an amazing location.

About the only picture I took where the bride’s train was not fluttering in the wind.

Our roams have been similarly blessed with the weather; around the lakes of Golden Gate Park a week ago Friday, it was mostly overcast. We had a nice afternoon on Russian Hill last Sunday, but by the time I was done, I felt pretty cold.

Sun or cloud, Metson Lake is always a favourite.

This time period feels like a bit of an interlude: having spent so much time together on our travels, and then found a place to live together, my partner has been busy with family in town for her niece’s graduation, and I have barely seen her – they are down in Southern California for the holiday weekend, so I will be in the East Bay taking care of the dog. We have been doing a lot of the bureaucratic preparation for the move, but it still feels too early to be packing boxes, even though I will be in Portland for a few days at the beginning of June. I realise that I have little time left in my current place; it took me a while to fully settle into it, but then I appreciated how perfect it was for me. I am ready to say goodbye to it after almost three years, and am excited for my next home, which will have enough room for the three of us.
