I never know how much personal stuff to post on here, but the big news this week was that I took the opportunity of Ruth’s birthday on Thursday to propose that we get married, and she said “yes” very enthusiastically. It all feels tremendously positive and exciting, and I am so happy to be in this settled place in my life right now.
The only downside to the whole day was that it was pretty drizzly throughout, as we are catching the tail of an intense atmospheric river passing over the north west of the US. As a cyclist I always pay very close attention to the forecast, and this week it has been constantly changing, with diifferent weather services offering differing levels of severity for how much rain we were due. In any case, it was enough to force me to cancel Friday’s roam, and I doubt I will get any riding in this weekend.
Having seen this coming, I rode plenty last weekend – wrapping up well on Sunday after slightly overestimating the temperature on Saturday and being a little cold around the edges. It was sunny and still; we had a nice roam around Mission Bay on Saturday afternoon, but we turned the heat on in our place a few more times before the warmer damp air rolled in.

We are sliding into the holiday season – and I took Thursday off to celebrate with Ruth, so my schedule has remained pretty light, which has allowed me to bring all my attention and energy to the regular sessions I have been leading, and to enjoy the stillness of sitting. We have some events to attend this weekend, but otherwise I will enjoy a lazy few days watching football, and keep my fingers crossed that the weather will improve for next weekend. With much of my normal weekends taken up by physical activity outdoors, and with my tolerance for being out in the rain diminishing all the time, it feels nice to give myself permission to do nothing.
