For probably the fourth year running, my dharma sister Kim and her husband hosted a Thanksgiving meal; I cooked a nut loaf for the first time since I was tenzo at City Center fifteen years ago, which turned out pretty well. We were able to bring Georgie, and keep her away from the three cats and the turkey, so all went well. Friday has felt like a Sunday, and we still have the weekend ahead of us.
Last weekend’s rain lingered through to Monday, by which time our house was full of damp clothes and soaked shoes as well as the birthday balloons, and then a cold front moved in; still air, clearer from the rain, cold in the mornings, pleasant in the sun.

Having taken a day off for Ruth’s birthday, I ended up working on Tuesday and Wednesday – and did my Within class from work – after which it was nice to have an empty calendar until the roam on Sunday. Also, having barely ridden last week, I was happy to get out on the empty holiday roads on Thursday morning, from the Bay to Ocean Beach; I followed that up with a longer ride on Friday, finding again, as I did a couple of weeks ago, that I am pretty wiped out after three hours of riding these days.
I am writing this half way through the four-day weekend, which feels like a real treat. We have been making the most of the free time by doing very little, though, since people are asking about it, we are starting to think about what kind of wedding we might have…
