Shundo David Haye – Zen Priest

A monk asked, “Why did the First Ancestor come from the west?”
Sansheng said, “Spoiled meat draws flies.” 

I may have posted this before, but it drew me back again. What would be fresh in this situation? The question is boilerplate, and no doubt Sansheng doubted the depth of the monk’s enquiry.
