Upcoming Teachings

With the various talks and ceremonies out of the way, my attention turns to the upcoming teaching events that I have. These are unusually diverse, and while I don’t have to prepare equally for all of them, I do have to be ready and present for each occasion.

The first two are closed events, the first a meditation for new company founders who will be on a two-day retreat down the peninsula with their backers; the second a half-day retreat at Green Gulch for a different set of founders and funders. There is always a tension in my mind between what I sometimes want to say to those enmeshed in a corporate lifestyle to jog them out of any sense of complacency, and my actual practice of meeting people where they are and hoping to say beneficial things to them about being authentic and being in their own bodies.

After those two sessions, I have an introductory evening at the new Alchemy Springs spa in San Francisco on Wednesday 7th, which will include movement as well as zazen; time in the sauna afterwards is an optional add-on. You can book a spot here, and use the code shundo10 for a discount.

In June I have an evening at the SF Dharma Collective in the Mission, where I will be focusing on Suzuki Roshi and his inheritance from Dogen. You can sign up for that one here.

After that, I will be presenting a half-day workshop on the Shodoka, an important text from the early generations of Zen in China that I have long felt was neglected at Zen Center.

As always, you can find details for these events, and my regular offerings, like my Wednesday sitting for Within, on the home page.
