August

The records show that it has been a dreary summer in San Francisco this year, the coolest in four decades. There have been other mornings of wet rides, afternoons roaming in thick low cloud and occasional drizzle.
On Wednesday afternoon, when I ordinarily ride for an hour or so, it was so dreary I could not bring myself to get changed and go out; I sat and drank several cups of tea instead, busying myself with admin-type tasks so I didn’t feel like I was wasting the whole afternoon. I am grateful that I will be off at Wilbur this weekend, where heat and sun is pretty much guaranteed.

I was planning to go up Twin Peaks on Sunday, while avoiding the marathon, but the fog and damp was so pervasive, I opted to come down through Mount Sutro instead.

As we move into a new month, there are a couple of special events on the calendar: I was asked to give the Saturday morning talk at Zen Center on the 9th. Since I was already thinking about a talk when I went down to Tassajara, and heard something in Eli’s talk that I wanted to focus on, so material has been filtering through for a few weeks, and I will use the time at Wilbur to try to set it out in a structure. You are most welcome to join in person or online for this.

Also, the next day, will be my second offering at Alchemy Springs, a morning variation on a roam that has optional sauna time at the end. You can buy tickets for that here.

We will roam to Alta Plaza and Lafayette Park.
