Christmas Rain

Checking in with the Monday morning study group about the week that just elapsed, the busyness of the early part of last week felt so far away after several days of quiet.

Seeing how wet the forecast looked for Christmas week, I gave myself permission in advance to be lazy. Having got a decent ride in on Friday, I wasn’t champing at the bit over the weekend. I wondered about riding on Saturday morning; when it got light the forecast said it would rain for the next hour. Only it didn’t really. It kept saying that, and it kept not really raining until noon, by which point most of the football I was content to watch was over. I had errands to run, so I just put on my wet weather gear and went out – to the post office, which of course was very busy; to the bike shop for more tubes and new tyres; to the farmers’ market, which was fairly empty.

We got messages about the power cut, which thankfully did not affect us this time, although San Francisco was widely impacted – people were in the dark on the busiest shopping day of the year, Waymos blocking intersections much to everyone’s displeasure.

Sunday was rather the same – I kept thinking about riding and kept not doing it. When we walked Georgie after lunch it was grey but dry. The south wind was getting up, which portended the rain that did start falling, a little before the end of the day, then a lot overnight and into Monday morning.

More rain is coming, but we managed to get out and about in the sun on Wednesday afternoon, which felt like a relief. My day of work on Tuesday was my last until the New Year, so I have plenty more space ahead of me. I hope the end of your year is as peaceful as can be.

Dampness after the rain on Friday.
The same view on Sunday afternoon.
