If I read the weather charts accurately, we had 15 days of rain out of 19 between the middle of December and the end of the holidays. It certainly felt depressing, and I could not have been more glad of the wind blowing it away, even if it was a chilly north-easterly for a while. Things have settled now into beautiful clear winter days.
This co-incided with getting back into the regular routine. I enjoyed my Monday classes, the Tuesday morning sit, my regular Within class and the new session at Alchemy. Once again, the people who showed up had interesting questions and a good spirit.
After getting through Saturday’s roam, albeit tired at the end of it (I think someone clocked it at 1900′ of elevation), Friday’s jaunt up Mount Sutro – even taking the steepest trails – felt like a breeze. With all the trees being taken down, which meant many of the trails were closed, there are more views than ever, and we got to sit in the late afternoon sun at the summit, which was nicer than I remember.
I thought I would have more time to write on Friday evening, but when we went to take Georgie out for a last walk, we came across a scene: someone had managed to reverse into the side of Ruth’s car where it was parked – hard enough to cave both driver’s side doors, and to push it down to the next parked car. There was an apologetic young couple there who were the protagonists, a tow truck was just arriving, and then the people from the third car also showed up. This is the third incident that has befallen Ruth’s car in the eighteen months we have been there, all when it has been parked on the street…
