Shundo David Haye – Zen Priest

Master Kokei was asked by Master Fuketsu, “When Buddhism was destroyed [in China, A.D. 845), where had our guardian god gone?”
Kokei said, “He was in the marketplace all the time, only no one saw him.”
Fuketsu said, “You have understood.” 

I’m not sure I would have appreciated this point earlier in my practice.
