Mist and Parades

For a few days, it was only the lateness of the sunrises that reminded me that we are close to the clocks going back. The days were mostly warm, though the mornings have been getting chillier.

Right now I am juggling the ideas I want to include in my talk at Zen Center on Saturday, hoping they fall into a natural sequence, though, as always, there are a few stray pieces I don’t know where to include, and other pieces I am bound to forget.

Since I also have a wedding on Saturday afternoon, which I will have to leave for right after the talk, I am trying to make sure I have everything lined up in good time. On Friday I intend to put on my robes and new okesa, just to check how the fabric feels; the only time I have worn it, for a final gratitude ceremony, on the morning after the last main transmission ceremony, it felt thicker and less pliant than my old black one.

I also had a wedding last Saturday, just south of San Jose. This is farther than I would agree to officiate, but there was a special request from the wedding planner, who I had worked with before – I will also be down in Carmel on the 31st, for similar reasons. Last weekend’s was a joyful and full occasion which I really enjoyed.

On Sunday, I had a free day, having realised that the last day of the Blue Angels and other Fleet Week activities would not be ideal for a meditative day out on Angel Island – this is now going to be on November 22nd, so fingers crossed for good weather. My free day naturally involved a bike ride, as I try to get my creaky back and knees stronger again. Then we took Georgie down in her buggy to watch the Italian Heritage parade, which was a fun outing for a sunny afternoon; as always she got lots of attention.

We have seasonally appropriate misty mornings, but only close to the bridge.
The scene on Columbus during the parade.
I caught this moment as we were chatting with our neighbours on the way home.
